The truck is powered by a 278-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine that can tow up to 6,000 pounds. It has a maximum payload of 1,155 pounds. You can also choose a 2.7-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter V6 DOHC 24-valve direction-injection Atkinson-cycle engine. When it comes to capability, some off-road trims are equipped with a special “Crawl” mode that lets you conquer the trail by controlling the throttle and brakes so you can focus on steering when going across difficult terrain.
Toyota takes safety seriously, and that is why they included the Toyota SafetySense. This suite includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a lane departure warning. These advanced systems will send a warning that gives you time to act, and sometimes, they will step in to take corrective action.
The mechanical systems come in two varieties. You can choose the standard systems that are perfect for getting around town, or you could choose the sport variety. The standard version comes with rear-wheel drive and an automatic limited-slip differential. The off-road version includes an all-wheel-drive with an electronically-controlled transfer case and on-demand operation. The mechanical systems are built tough to be able to take the punishment of off-road driving.
You can choose from seven trims, starting with the SR base trim and going all the way up to the TRD Pro with its exclusive off-roading capabilities and amenities. These are the trims Toyota offers this year on the Tacoma.
